International Women’s Day (IWD) is unique in that it is not affiliated with any country, organisation, institution, NGO, charity, media outlet, academic institution or group.
It belongs to all of us. So it allows us to engage with it as best we see fit. The world has done so since 1911!
So here is our question to you: How will you engage with IWD this year?
The theme put forward this year is #AccelerateAccess, but don’t feel you are bound by this. Celebrate the women in your life as best you can. 🙏🏽
- Make what they do and stand for visible
- Shine a light on women’s causes
- support female-founded/owned businesses
- and lift them up!
All in a bid to create an equal playing field for women all over the world.
If you are stuck for ideas on how to celebrate women (not just on 8th March, but every day) as a business. Then find some inspiration below.
Artistic & Expressive:
Take inspiration from the above video to:
-
"Unsung Heroines" Storytelling Competition: Uncover hidden stories and celebrate the unsung heroines who inspire your staff. Share the most inspiring tales in a company-wide email or bring them to life with a live storytelling event.
-
"I Am Woman" Video Project: Capture the voices of the women in your company. Create a moving video showcasing what International Women's Day means to them, set to an inspiring soundtrack.
Community & Giving Back:
-
"Sponsor a Girl's Dream" Initiative: Make a tangible difference by partnering with a local organisation supporting girls' education or empowerment. Employees can contribute to sponsoring a girl's education or offer their time as mentors.
-
"Donate Clothes" Event: Combine sustainability with social impact. Organise a clothes giveaway where employees can clear out their wardrobes knowing that their unused clothes will be donated to a women's refuge.
-
"Skills for Success" Workshop for Local Community: Extend your support beyond the workplace. Offer a free workshop for women in the local community, focusing on valuable skills like CV writing, interview techniques, or financial literacy.
Sweeten the Celebration:
As a female-founded biscuits business, we would love to support your IWD efforts with bespoke biscuits!
Making it Matter All Year Round:
Remember, celebrating women shouldn't be confined to a single day. Integrate these ideas throughout the year to create a workplace culture that truly values and empowers women. Organise mentoring programmes, host regular talks by inspiring female leaders and ensure equal opportunities for growth and development. It is these consistent actions that will Accelerate Access for women.
